Arrests were made before the annual anti-police brutality march had even started, on March 15th 2013 in Montreal. Protesters were split in groups from the start by the riot police, who then proceeded to kettle and detain a few hundred people. Kettling is a controversial tactic in witch cordons of policemen in riot gear contain and proceed to kettle the protesters into a limited area. The tactic is controversial because it can only be used with peaceful crowds, therefore infringing their rights.
